You can tell a lot about Marly Bird just by the hats she wears. She is an avid crocheter and knitter who loves to share her passion with students. Balancing her day as wife, mommy, designer, National Spokesperson for Red Heart yarns, teacher and Yarn Thing Podcast host is a challenge, but Marly wouldn’t change any of it.

1.     Curvy Knits    --  Friday, October 6, 2017 9:00am-12:00pm
Description: Have you ever spent time and yarn money to knit a sweater that you never wear because it stretched, or feels funny, or makes you look massive? In Curvy Knits learn fit adjustments to waist, bust, set in sleeves, neckline and other trouble spots that will make your finished garments look wonderful. In class learn how to calculate horizontal bust darts, calculate the shape of a cap sleeve, and alter necklines. This is a fast-paced class with a lot of information but you will not be disappointed. Leave this class with more tools in your knitter’s tool box to make better fitting sweaters. Students will learn about what they like, how to choose the right pattern, how to use basic math to calculate shaping, bust darts and sleeve caps!
2. Brioche: More than a French Bread    --  Friday, October 6, 2017 1:30pm-4:30pm
Description: Amaze your friends and advance your knitting skills by learning
how to do basic brioche knitting. Brioche knitting creates a wonderfully lofty, cushy reversible ribbed fabric by working on stitch and slipping another as you bring the yarn over the slipped stitch. This might sound confusing but once you do a couple rows there is a soothing rhythm to it. In this class, knitters will learn how to create this fascinating fabric in one and two colors, the best way to cast on and bind off for brioche and how to read the abbreviations.  Class will cover cast on, one color brioche, two color brioche, and bind off. It will also provide many opportunities for hands on practice
3. Addictive Entrelac Knitting: Entrelac in the Round  -- Saturday, October 7, 2017, 9am-12pm
Description: Entrelac in the Round class not only gives you instructions to make a must-have hat that all your friends will want, but with this fantastic class you learn how to do basic entrelac, how to knit backwards (making it unnecessary to purl) and how to do entrelac in the round. Students will make a baby hat and will learn all the skills for you to make the Knit Entrelac Beanie for every member in your family.
4. Lace and Cables Knitting  --  Saturday, October 7, 2017, 1:30pm-4:30pm
Description: Learn how to mix lace and cable patterns in a project, tips for staying on track, shaping secrets and general know-how for knitting these two amazing fabrics into one.
5. Crochet Chart Breakdown  --Sunday October 8 , 2017, 9:00 am -12:00 pm
Description:Are you a beginner ready to take your skills to the next level, but not ready to jump into garments? Have you ever looked at a pattern and seen a crochet chart and thought it was some sort of Klingon language? Then this is the class for you! In this class you will learn how to read a crochet stitch chart for nine different stitches varying from simple to complex. Learning how to read a crochet stitch chart makes the question of “where do I put that stitch” no longer just guesswork. Don’t let those swatches go to waste! As you learn the stitches in class, Marly shows you how to take that knowledge and put it into action by making a Stitch Sampler Baby Blanket. Instructions are given for full-size sample stitch squares that can be seamed together to make a blanket. That’s not all! ·       Until August 31, 2017: AKG member: $65 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $290, non-member: $75 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $350.
·       Sept  1, 2017 to October 5, 2017: AKG member: $75 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $345, non-member: $85 per 3 hour class, all 5 classes: $400.

Class Refund Policy

There are no refunds on classes. While we recognize that your plans may change, we are able to fund the event only with a minimum number of class sales and therefore cannot issue refunds. If there are handouts provided by the instructor, we will save those for you. No handouts will be given to those not registered.

If the event is cancelled by the guild, then registrants will receive a full refund.
